Our harvest is in full swing and we have already brought in more than half our grapes. Thus far, the weather has been near picture-perfect and the fruit quality this year is fantastic.
The 2011 vintage is off to a great start and the team has been working around the clock!
I’ve been going out with the viticulture team on daily vineyard visits to taste the grapes and make sure that we are picking at optimal time. We strive to capture the exact moment in the vineyard when the grape is just perfect, so we’re able to deliver that very moment in the bottle and have it come alive in the taste.
Three times a day I visit the top of the tanks to check on the fermentation and to smell the wines. So far, there are some really intense aromas coming through! It’s always great to open the tank lid on Sauvignon Blanc and smell fresh cut grass or rich intense tropical fruit.
This year we have 36 harvest staff and as usual a great mix of keen budding winemakers from all over the world including Canada, USA, UK, Spain, Italy and Argentina. It’s great to welcome back a few familiar faces from previous years, as we couldn’t manage harvest without such a supportive team.
